Preparing for Your Exam
The following are some very general guidelines to help you prepare for your exam. Please call 720-494-4777 if you need clarification, have any questions or feel you may have a unique situation.
- Please bring your insurance card and a form of identification like a driver's license.
- Also, please bring any lab test results you may have had completed within the last 30 days.
- CT with Injection Contrast: NPO (Nothing by mouth) starting 4 hours before exam.

CT Abdomen or Pelvis: Oral Contrast. Please pick up at our office the day before your exam. Drink the night before your exam and also 4 hours before exam.
- Exceptions: NO Oral Contrast for Appendicitis or Stones.
- CT: In general no prep for a CT that does not require contrast.

MRI: In general there is no preparation needed but please refrain from wearing any type of metal to your exam - plain t-shirt, sweatshirt with no bra or wear sports bra, loose bottoms with no snaps or zippers. Leave all jewelry at home.
- Exceptions: If a brain/orbits is ordered, then please do not wear makeup.
- MRI: Any type of abdomen MRI such as liver or gallbladder, NPO (Nothing by mouth) 4 hours before exam is desireable.
- Virtual Colonoscopy: Bowel Prep. Please pick up the bowel preparation mix 2 days before your procedure.
- Upper GI & Small Bowel XRay: NPO (Nothing by mouth) after midnight.
- Abdominal & Renal Ultrasound: No tobacco chewing or smoking. NPO (Nothing by mouth) after midnight.
- Aorta Ultrasound: No tobacco chewing or smoking. NPO (Nothing by mouth) after midnight.
- Pelvic or OB Ultrasound: Please call. You will need to drink 32 ounces of water 1 hour before your exam and cannot void until the exam is completed.
